China's hands-on lumber industry

email print PDF
A Vancouver Sun article reports on the many family-owned, small scale, hands-on lumber producers who make up the bulk of the Chinese lumber industry.

Using antiquated equipment and labor-intensive methods, these companies are "too small for large Canadian lumber companies to even find, let alone take seriously", says the article. "But Canadian producers ignore them at their peril. These back-street mills may be small and run on antiquated machinery, but collectively they are forging a new future for forest products manufacturing."
