Whole tree chipper
Peterson brought out its 5000H whole tree chipper to demonstrate the many benefits of in-field chipping. The all-in-one chipper will debark, delimb, and make paper grade pulp and paper chips in one single process. The 5000H can fill a standard chip van with clean chips in less than 15 minutes. Equipped with a large feed throat, the 5000H can accept up to a 23-inch (56-cm) diameter single tree or multiple smaller stems. The 5000H can be configured with a three- or four-pocket disc, with several optional sheave sizes to make precisely the chip needed. The standard three-pocket disc produces chips from 5/8 to 1 1/4 inches (16–32 mm) long, while the optional four-pocket disc produces chips from 1/2 to 1 inches (13–25 mm) long. Chipping production rates up to 100 tons (90 tonnes) per hour can be achieved depending on chip size and wood characteristics.

Forestry tiller
Seppi featured its Maxisoil multifunctional tiller-mulcher at DEMO, which is the largest forestry tiller in the world. The mulcher is ideal for maintaining dirt roads, for land reclamation and to clean up slash after felling operations. The mulcher’s patented rotor has an optimized combination of Super Mono Protect and Super Mono Extrem hammers with tungsten carbide inserts. Interchangeable Hardox wear-proof plates protect the frame, and an angular compensation feature protects the cardan shaft, the tractor PTO and Maxisoil from unnecessary stress caused by differences in soil.

Mobile log loader
Liebherr displayed several new items at its DEMO booth, including the Tier 4 Final R-924 Excavator, L-538 wheel loader equipped with Front Mast, L580 IND wheel loader offering two types of lifting arms, Z bar type for construction type operation and Industrial, for forestry operation with grapple, forks or bucket. The LH50M mobile log loader with its energy recovering system was in action at the Liebherr site. The L580 Log Handler with a 3.2 square meter grapple was also on display, and offers a compromise between static log loaders and front-end wheel loaders.

Boom-mounted mulcher
Denis Climaf’s DAH boom-mounted mulchers were in action at DEMO International. The DAH Forestry Mulchers use Denis Cimaf’s patented horizontal-shaft rotor technology with fixed knives and bolt-on cutting blades that deliver maximum resistance to impact and abrasion. Six different DAH models offer variable displacement, axial-piston motors that minimize overheating problems and improve re-acceleration and timing-belt drive to eliminate slippage. The mulchers also feature protective rings that limit the size of the bites and considerably reduce risks of breakage on the knife holders.

Horizontal grinder
Terex Environmental Equipment brought machines from its CBI and Ecotec product lines and featured its TBG 650 Horizontal Grider (CBI 5800BT) at the show, along with its CBI 7544 Flail and Disc Chipper process material. The TBG 650 wood waste grinder features a high-lift upper feed roll for easy maintenance, a high torque, hydrostatic feed system, interchangeable carbide layer tips and diverter pan. The CBI 7544 Flail and Disc Chipper uses a belt-driven gearbox to drive the majority of its hydraulics, and features a bidirectional bark pusher, which gives the ability to discharge the debris to either side of the machine.

Road Builder/Timber Loader
Link-Belt introduced its 5040 RB and TL Forestry Machine models to the Canadian and U.S. markets at DEMO. This new 40 Series features an advanced, electronically-controlled Isuzu engine that meets Final Tier 4 requirements, with up to 15 per cent cycle time speed increase than previous models. A 55 per cent fuel capacity increase means less downtime. The machines also feature a 2-3 per cent diesel exhaust fluid consumption rate relative to fuel consumption, with no diesel particulate filter maintenance constraint. An updated cab offers better operator ergonomics, comfort and visibility. The machines are also equipped with the RemoteCARE GPS-enabled telematics system.
