FPInnovations receives three prestigious awards

October 7, 2015 – FPInnovations is celebrating after receiving consecutive accolades from well-respected industry associations in September.

On September 15, the Canadian Institute of Forestry-Institut forestier du Canada (CIF-IFC) honoured FPInnovations as the recipient of the 2015 Canadian Forest Management Group Achievement Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievements made by teams or groups of natural resource managers, researchers or non-government-organization groups in the field of forest resource-related activities in Canada.

The CIF-IFC also named Anne LeBrun Ruff, FPInnovations’ provincial leader for the Atlantic Region, as the recipient of the James M. Kitz Award for her outstanding contributions to innovation, peer-to-peer collaboration, and sustainable forestry. The award recognizes the contributions of forest practitioners newer to the profession.

Later in the month, FPInnovations’ research leader Conroy Lum received the L.J. Markwardt Award from ASTM International for his extensive contributions to the development of standards for the engineering use of wood and wood-based materials in building construction.

“We are honoured and are very proud of these awards,” said Pierre Lapointe, president and CEO of FPInnovations. “As a world-leading, knowledge-driven R&D institute, we believe that people are our most important asset and such awards are confirmation of that simple fact. We thank each of the esteemed associations that continue to recognize our hard work, inspiring and motivating us to bring exciting new innovations and continuous improvement opportunities to the sector.”

The awards follow a series of accolades awarded to FPInnovations’ staff earlier this year. In March, Erol Karacabeyli, Michael Paleologou and Paul Morris all received prestigious honours given by respected industry associations for their exceptional contributions and accomplishments in the forest industry.

In February, FPInnovations’ provincial leader for Ontario, John Pineau, was named one of the recipients of the Ontario Forest Industry Association’s Forest Sector Champion Awards. In the same month, FPInnovations’ president and CEO Pierre Lapointe was presented the John S. Bates Memorial Gold Medal, the most prestigious award given by the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada to recognize a leader’s contribution to the science and technology of the pulp and paper industry.
