According to the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s August 2015 update, housing starts were up more than 2,200 units through the first seven months of 2015 to 92,145, up from 89,951 during the same period in 2014.

There has been a dramatic increase in housing completions through the end of July, with nearly 15,000 more units completed this year for a total of 101,298. That’s a significant increase over the 86,688 completed by this time last year.

The lower number of units currently under construction counters the rise in housing completions. Through the end of July, there were 185,059 units currently being built, as opposed to 194,673 in 2014.
