The city of Port Alberni B.C. is receiving $2 million from the Alberni Valley Community Forest (AVCF) following a financial success in 2019. The AVCF board decided to give this dividend to the city that owns them as they had previously put aside money for forest expansion, but walked out of 2019 with a net revenue of $1.6 million.

Some of the forests success is being attributed to a slow forest fire season in 2019, with the community forest not seeing a single fire, reports the Alberni Valley News.

“This year’s $2 million dividend clearly demonstrates that we can successfully manage sustainable forestry practices while enhancing the livability in our community,” says Sharie Minions, Port Alberni mayor.
