A brief respite from extreme heat has aided efforts to contain wildfires in Alberta, the provincial government said in a statement. But rising temperatures are forecasted to increase wildfire risks. Albertans are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to all fire restrictions.

As of 2 p.m. on July 14, no new emergency alerts have been issued. However, Little Red River Cree Nation’s State of Local Emergency, declared on July 10, remains in effect, with evacuation orders still in place for the Garden River community. The Semo Complex fire, now over 44,000 hectares, remains out of control and is actively being fought by over 160 firefighters, supported by ten helicopters and 38 pieces of heavy equipment.

On July 13, severe thunderstorm and tornado alerts were issued for Kirriemuir, Compeer, and Bodo but were canceled the same evening. Albertans are encouraged to download the Alberta Emergency Alert mobile app for real-time updates.

Currently, 33 wildfires are out of control in the Forest Protection Area, with a total of 776 wildfires recorded this year, burning over 265,000 hectares. A province-wide fire ban is in effect for the Forest Protection Area, while local municipalities may have their own bans.

Evacuees displaced for seven or more days are eligible for emergency payments. There are no current highway or hospital closures. Residents are encouraged to prepare for emergencies by stocking up on essentials and knowing their evacuation plans.
