Alberta’s caribou plan could hurt forest industry: councillors

July 4, 2017 - Municipal councillors in northern Alberta are concerned the province's caribou range plans are a cookie cutter solution that will harm forest industry operations in the area.
The federal government requires all provinces and territories to develop the caribou plans by October to help the threatened species recover from low numbers. The Edmonton Journal reports Alberta’s preliminary plan sets aside 1.8 million hectares of protected land in province’s northwest.
