Aspen Planers restarts second shift at Merritt mill

New fibre supply from Canfor’s shuttered sawmill in Vavenby, B.C., is allowing Aspen Planers in Merritt, B.C., to add a second shift over the holidays.

According to the Merritt Herald, 50 employees were laid off in June when the company eliminated the second shift, citing lack of access to fibre, increased log costs, and weakening lumber markets.
