Valemount Community Forest has purchased a mill with the hopes to have the mill operational by the fall following a significant deal after a bad year for forest companies.
Purchased from Edgewater Holdings in Prince George, Valemount Community Forest manager, Craig Pryor said that the mill was no small purchase as he estimates it will “take between 50 to 100 trips to haul it to Valemount.” He estimates that the mill will process 35,000 to 40,000 meters per year allowing for waste to be sold to pulp and paper mills and OSB plants that are looking for wood fibre.
The mill comes with a hogger, chippers, conveyors, chip bins, and debarkers as reported by Rocky Mountain Goat newspaper.
