B.C. Wildfire Service begins wildfire prevention measures early in response to COVID-19

As ongoing social distancing measures are put in place across the country due to COVID-19, B.C. Wildfire Service has begun to prepare for summer season wildfires in case COVID-19-related restrictions impact their response capabilities in the future.

Beginning April 16, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning will be prohibited throughout the province. These fires are used to deal with slash piles and yard waste. Campfires are currently not prohibited and due to the pandemic, timing for seasonal fire ban implementations have also been affected.
