BC community forest takes on second-growth thinning project

August 30, 2019  By  Maria Church

A logging company and forest tenure holder owned by the City of Terrace, B.C., is undergoing a thinning project on second-growth forests in its operating area.

Terrace Community Forest general manager Kim Haworth told the Terrace Standard the project will address overcrowding in the second-growth areas and ultimately increase the number of trees available for harvest.

The Forest Enhancement Society of B.C. (FESBC) is funding the project, which will provide additional volume to nearby Skeena Sawmill and pellet plant.

Planning and development of the project is underway, with operations expected to begin shortly.
