B.C.’s Bridging to Retirement Program, a program that helped more than 1,000 forestry workers transition to retirement in the wake of the 2019 industry downturn, is coming to a close.
However, the B.C. government will continue the job placement program through an online platform and three offices in the B.C. Interior to help forestry workers.
Funding to help forestry workers access government services, training and job placements will continue to support workers impacted by wildfire seasons, labour shortages and the COVID-19 pandemic until the end of March 2022.
According to the provincial government, in the past year, 41 curtailed or closed mills resumed operations, resulting in 7,500 people back to work.
