BC court denies extension of Fairy Creek injunction

On Tuesday, Sept. 28, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Douglas Thompson denied Teal Jones’ request for a one-year extension to its injunction which prevents old-growth logging protestors from blockading forestry activities in the Fairy Creek, B.C., area.

The court cited the RCMP’s ways of enforcing the injunction as damaging to the court’s reputation, reports CTV News. In his decision, Thompson wrote that “The factors weighing in favour of extension do not outweigh the public interest in protecting the court from the risk of further depreciation of its reputation.”
