BC judge sides with Northern Pulp on creditor protection extension

Creditor protection has been extended for Northern Pulp in Nova Scotia until the end of October, a B.C. Supreme Court judge has ruled.

Justice Shelley Fitzpatrick is also allowing the company to use $8 million to pursue reopening efforts and advance legal action against the Nova Scotia government for the mill’s closure in 2020, CBC News reports.

Northern Pulp’s creditor protection was scheduled to run out this month, but their lawyers argued the extension will give the company time to further advance their restructuring.
