BC to ban campfires, fireworks, open burning as temperatures soar

The province of B.C. has announced a ban on campfires, fireworks, and open burning effective tomorrow, June 30, as temperatures are expected to remain high throughout the week.

Violators of the ban could be fined $1,150 or face up to one year in jail and have to pay firefighting costs if the fire sparks a wildfire, The Free Press reports.

Currently, there are 20 active wildfires in B.C. – 13 of which started over the past weekend.
