Canada, Nova Scotia to plant 21M trees in wildfire recovery effort
August 23, 2024 By CFI Staff
Canada and Nova Scotia have announced a $40 million initiative to plant up to 21 million trees by 2031. The effort, driven by the federal 2 Billion Trees program, aims to restore ecosystems damaged by wildfires and enhance biodiversity.
The project, which will plant more than 21 trees for every Nova Scotian, is expected to create hundreds of jobs in the forestry sector and bolster forest resilience against future wildfires. The initiative also supports reforestation near waterways and conservation of species at risk, including the mainland moose and American marten.
