Canadian Wood Council commends change to B.C. Building Code

The Canadian Wood Council (CWC) applauds the Government of British Columbia’s announcement in support of opportunities in the province for forest communities and innovative low-carbon solutions such as tall wood construction.

“Tall wood construction is one example where the CWC’s mission of expanding market access and increasing the demand for Canadian wood products is recognized through excellence in codes, standards, regulations and education,” explained Rick Jeffery, Interim President of the Canadian Wood Council. “Today’s announcement marks the collective technical, research and code efforts from a consortium of industry partners that have worked together to demonstrate that tall wood is a safe, sophisticated and low-carbon building solution.”

Advanced construction technologies and modern mass timber products are proving that building tall with wood is not only achievable but also gaining momentum and interest from the design and construction sector – with completed building examples located around the world. Tall wood buildings, built with renewable wood products from sustainably managed forests, are revolutionizing the construction industry and appealing to communities that are committed to sustainable development and climate change mitigation.

BC is proud to support the Government of British Columbia as it moves forward and provides early opportunities for municipalities to build taller and faster, using wood,” said Lynn Embury-Williams, Executive Director of the Wood WORKS!
