Canadore College’s “Our Forest: A Living Lab for All” has been named a national finalist for an International Green Gown Award in the Nature Positive category. The project, which developed a 10-year forest management plan for the college’s 460-acre campus, aims to secure Forest Council Stewardship certification.

Jesse Russell, sustainable development project leader, called the recognition a validation of their efforts to protect and manage forest sustainability.

“It is highly competitive, so being recognized on an international scale is an achievement on its own,” Russell said.

The Ontario college’s president and CEO George Burton highlighted the project’s significance, noting it makes Canadore the first Canadian college to earn both Forest Council Stewardship and Sustainable Forestry Initiatives certifications.

Winners will be announced in September.
