Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation wins Business Partnership of the Year

Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. (CCR) has been honoured with the award for Business Partnership of the Year through the BC Achievement Foundation’s Indigenous Business Award program.

The Indigenous Business Award (IBA) program celebrates excellence and focuses on the successes of Indigenous businesses and entrepreneurs. As an Indigenous business partnership of the Tŝideldel First Nation and the Tl’etinqox Government, with several successful projects completed, CCR has proven to be a great fit for the parameters of the prestigious award.

“Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation is so pleased to be awarded with this honour,” noted Percy Guichon, director of CCR and member of the Tŝideldel First Nation.

Formed in the spring of 2017, the joint venture was originally formed to address the 100,000 hectares of dead pine left in the Chilcotin region and to reduce wildfire risk and rehabilitate mountain pine beetle-damaged forests near Alexis Creek. The company has since used both traditional methods and innovation to bring about substantial sustainable changes to the landscape and the economy of the area.

“The original vision of our collaborative business partnership between the two First Nations was to do all we could to help rehabilitate the forests in our collective regions, taking the lead in making important decisions on the land base, and employing many First Nations individuals to do the important work in their territory,” said Guichon. “Having accomplished this and seeing that there is more to do with new partners who also want to engage and be a part of the work CCR is doing, we can see CCR taking on new roles within the forest industry to be excellent stewards of the forests and the lands which provide for our people, wildlife, and communities beyond our First Nations. We were pleased to be nominated and very humbled to have won this honour.”

BC Achievement’s Shine the Light campaign, which is celebrating the awardees through social media, said, “Congratulations to Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. on your Indigenous Business Award in the category of Business Partnership of the Year. This joint venture’s mission is to coordinate and implement large-scale programs and forest initiatives within their traditional territories. They have demonstrated excellence, innovation and collaboration in carrying out forest rehabilitation work and are most deserving recipients of this award.”

Indigenous Business Award awardees are representative of excellence in Indigenous businesses, not just for the practical day-to-day work they do and the communities they serve, but because their efforts are preparing the path for the youth and future generations through Thuyshaynum: preparing the path, directing the feet.

“When we come together to celebrate Indigenous business achievement, we are also blazing a path for today’s youth and for the generations that will follow. The Indigenous Business Award program recognizes business achievement, honouring innovative ideas and new ways of making our economy more robust and more inclusive,” said foundation Chair, Anne Giardini. “Every year, the enterprises recognized with an Indigenous Business Award highlight ways we all benefit from an ongoing reconciliation of the practices of the past with the economies of the future.”

CCR is humbled to be recognized for this award and is proud to serve the communities that have helped shape their success.

The awardees will be celebrated at the IBA Gala on November 29, 2022 at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver.
