The Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada (CIF-IFC) has launched its tree planting program, Trees of Celebration.

Celebrating life can take many forms and occur at different milestones – whether at the beginning when a newborn arrives, a relationship union, birthday, graduation, anniversary, holidays or when a loved one has passed.

“The Trees of Celebration program offers the opportunity to not only commemorate and celebrate life events, but to also positively address climate change,” said Mark Pearson, CIF-IFC executive director. “The purchase of a tree today will provide a living legacy and numerous environmental benefits for both current and future generations.”

Trees purchased through the Trees of Celebration program will be planted in a Canadian province of the purchaser’s choosing, and can be purchased directly from the CIF-IFC website and online merchandise store.

Upon purchasing a tree, the buyer will receive a personalized tree e-certificate with the recipient’s name and will receive an email/notification of when and where the trees are planted, including an approximate planting location.

“As the national voice of forest practitioners, the CIF-IFC is well positioned and excited to help Canadians celebrate life milestones,” said Pearson. “The Institute’s tree planting partners have the expertise and knowledge to ensure that the right trees are properly planted in the right location for the right reasons.”

A percentage of the proceeds from the total sales of each tree will go to the following organizations:

  • Forests without Borders – a registered charity established by the CIF-IFC, working to protect, restore or improve forest landscapes for health, security, the economy and the environment nationally and internationally;
  • Tree planting partners – the CIF-IFC works with organizations on-the-ground across Canada, who are dedicated to ensuring that all trees purchased through the program get planted; and
  • CIF-IFC – support for program administration and delivery as a not-for-profit organization.
