The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has ordered operations to resume at Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKC) and continue at Canadian National Railway (CN) while the ongoing disputes proceed to binding arbitration.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, along with ministers Devin Dreeshen, RJ Sigurdson, and Matt Jones, have expressed relief over the decision, highlighting the significant economic damage the strike could have caused. Alberta’s government had urged the federal government to resolve the issue swiftly through binding arbitration or back-to-work legislation, emphasizing the need to protect Canada’s economy and international trade relationships.
The BC Council of Forest Industries issued a statement earlier urging all parties involved – including employers, unions, and the federal government – to urgently resolve the situation to avoid widespread disruption.
