Designed to accelerate the wood drying process by continuously cycling lumber through the kiln, the new system will increase the annual capacity of the sawmill to 160 mbft, according to EACOM. The system also means significant energy efficiency gains.

“EACOM has been consistent in its strategy of growth and continuous improvement. This investment demonstrates our commitment to the Timmins sawmill,” Kevin Edgson, president and CEO of EACOM, said in a news release.

Following a fire in 2012, EACOM rebuilt its Timmins sawmill with 20 per cent more capacity and state-of-the-art technology. In 2015 and 2016, the company added a new lumber grading system and planer mill enhancements.

“EACOM will continue to make investments that contribute to the Company’s performance and resilience,” Edgson said.

EACOM owns seven sawmills with five in Ontario and two in Quebec as well as a remanufacturing facility in Quebec, and an engineered I-joist plant in Ontario, all together employing about 1,100 people.
