FPInnovations secures $3M boost for sustainable wood and clean vehicle projects
August 27, 2024 By CFI Staff / NRCan
FPInnovations has secured nearly $3 million in federal funding to advance sustainable wood construction and zero-emission vehicle technologies in the Montreal region.
“FPInnovations has been a long-standing pillar of applied research in one of Canada’s most important resource-based sectors,” said Energy Minister Jonathan Wilkinson. “[The] funding announcement highlights the vital partnership between the federal government and FPInnovations in guiding the forestry industry’s ongoing transformation.”
The majority of the funding – over $2.5 million – comes from Natural Resources Canada’s Green Construction through Wood (GCWood) program. This will enable FPInnovations to conduct market research and testing, paving the way for low-carbon wood-based systems to be integrated into Canadian building codes. An additional $212,000 from the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative (ZEVAI) will support FPInnovations’ projects aimed at accelerating the adoption of zero-emission vehicles in the forestry and commercial transportation sectors.
“FPInnovations’ projects are concrete examples of creative and innovative initiatives industry partners can undertake to advance the fight against climate change,” said Francis Scarpaleggia, MP for Lac-Saint-Louis.
Stéphane Renou, president and CEO of FPInnovations, highlighted the importance of this support: “FPInnovations is proud to work with the federal government to meet society’s challenges, such as emissions reductions in transportation, increasing the housing supply in Canada, and supporting sustainable job creation.”
