Government invests in two Indigenous forestry projects in B.C.

The Yune’sit’in Government will receive $173,500 in funding to support the business planning of an Indigenous-owned milling operation. Together with Tolko Industries and the Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training Employment Centre, the project helped workers with training and business plan development to take advantage of opportunities in forestry.

Additionally, the government has invested $148,000 to help train Esk-etemc First Nation community members in forest management, environmental monitoring, business development, safety and first aid.

Both projects were funded by the Indigenous Forestry Initiative, part of B.C.’s Softwood Lumber Action Plan.
