Ministry seeks comments on forestry plan

January 8, 2014, Powell River, B.C. – The ministry of forests, lands and natural resource operations in British Columbia is looking to the public for their thoughts on a proposal to leave thousands of hectares old growth trees alone to help protect biodiversity.

According to a report in the Powell River Peak, the proposal involves close to 18,000 hectares of trees along Jervis Inlets and Toba near Powell River and on parts of the Sechelt Peninsula. The areas are part of B.C.'s Sunshine Coast.

The current proposal is in addition to over 12,700 hectares of old growth trees in a different area of the Sunshine Coast put under protection by the Ministry in July of 2012.
