Hitachi shuns layoffs

Sept. 26, 2014, Guelph – Hitachi has adopted a novel approach to the challenge of finding and keeping skilled workers. The company has decided that it will no longer layoff workers during market slups. Keeping workers during slow times will mean the company will have the workers necessary to ramp back up when the recession ends.

"Hitachi is trying to hold fast in Guelph and retain jobs that pay more than $24 an hour," says the Globe and Mail. The company is asking the government to support the move with financial support.
