Fed supports tall wood buildings

Aug. 11, 2014, Quebec City – FPInnovations welcomes today's news of additional support for enhancing innovation and competitiveness in Canada's forest industry; and the launch of a technical guide for the design and construction of tall wood buildings in Canada.

The announcement was made by the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northen Ontario during his keynote speech at the World Conference on Timber Engineering in Québec City.

Minister Rickford launched the first ever Technical Guide for the Design and Construction of Tall Wood Buildings in Canada, to be released by FPInnovations. The Technical Guide, funded by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), provides peer-reviewed scientific knowledge and expertise on constructing multi- storey wood buildings.

During his keynote speech, Minister Rickford highlighted the $24 million the Federal Government is investing in FPInnovations through Economic Action Plan 2014. The investment is reinforcing innovation in the Canadian forest sector, which has become a leader in transforming the Canadian economy by rejuvenating a traditional resource-based industry using the innovative know-how of FPInnovations.
