Investment in Northern Ontario

Feb. 3, 2014 – North Bay, Ontario – Government of Canada has made an investment to create and maintain jobs, strengthen the regional economy and enhance Northern Ontario's forestry and wood product sectors.

FedNor funding of $600,000 will be used to support the Canadian Wood Council's Ontario WoodWORKS! program for a two-year period. Designed to position wood as an excellent choice and best-value building material for all types of construction, this strategic initiative will help diversify the industry, while creating growth and sustainable prosperity for communities and businesses across Northern Ontario.

This initiative is expected to support approximately 150 small and medium-sized businesses throughout the region. Since its inception in 2000, the Ontario WoodWORKS! Program has helped promote the use of wood in more than 170 construction projects across Northern Ontario, create or maintain more than 470 jobs, and increase wood sales by more than $94 million.
