Kenora mill prepares for restart

Feb. 9, 2015 – Final approval of a Crown wood supply is all that stands in the way of a stud mill restart in Kenora.

According to a report from Northern Ontario Business, Prendiville Industries, parent company of Kenora Forest Products, is prepared to make a multi-million investment in the mothballed mill once the Ministry of Natural Resources confirms a wood supply agreement. The proposed Crown wood supply is 339,000 cubic metres from various management units in the region.

Company officials have stated that extensive upgrades to the mill would include upgrades to the planer mill and an additional dry kiln.

The mill has been shuttered since April of 2008, with 105 employees laid off as a result.
