Kingston mayor blames wood

Dec. 18, 2013 - The steel and concrete industries aren't the only ones who have it out for tall wooden structures. After a devestating fire destroyed parts of downtown Kingston, Ontario leaving only a crane in its wake, the major told the CBC he and had concerns over such a large wooden structure being built. He said he believed the situation would be different had the building been constructed of concrete instead of wood.

The building was designed to code, something the mayor questionned during the interview suggesting the Ontario building code be reviewed.

"We did not say you cannot build this out of wood, you have to build this out of concrete," he said at one point during the interview. He continued along these lines later in the interview saying, "Should we be making amendments? Is this the right size of building to be making it all out of wood?"
