Preliminary CVDs end as final determination postponed

Aug. 29, 2017 - The U.S. Department of Commerce has postponed its final determinations in the anti-dumping duty (ADD) and countervailing duty (CVD) investigations of imports of softwood lumber from Canada until no later than Nov. 14.

The 19.88 per cent preliminary CVD officially ended Saturday, allowing for a “gap period” for softwood producers to ship without CVD before the final determinations are set.

CIBC lumber analyst Hamir Patel told The Canadian Press Canadian companies have been able to ship products without CVDs since Aug. 14 by delaying paperwork.
