Angus Seed Plant slated for closure in 2018

The government-run seed plant, in operation since 1923, is currently running at 20 per cent capacity. 

“We are going to be moving out of an industrial size plant to a native tree seed genetic archive,” Ken Durst, regional services manager for the MNRF, told CTV News. “That’s going to be focused on biodiversity and climate change science.”

Rob Keen, CEO of Forests Ontario, says a new plan to replace the seed plant is needed as soon as possible to support silviculture in the province.
