B.C.’s coastal mayors report waning optimism for forestry

July 4, 2016 – British Columbia’s forestry sector is worse off than it was 10 years ago, according to mayors in coastal areas of the province.

A Truck Loggers Association survey revealed a lack of optimism that executive director David Elstone attributes to concerns about job losses experienced in the last decade.

The survey also revealed a small increase in support for log exports and strong support of First Nations’ involvement in the industry. The mayors also indicated they want to change the image of forestry in order to recruit young workers.
