Canada requests review of First Nation compensation over logging dispute

Jan. 16, 2017 - The federal government is asking to re-assess its decision to offer a $13.8-million award to the Huu-ay-aht First Nation as compensation over a historical logging dispute.

As the Times Colonist's Katie Derosa reports, the decision has caused a stir in the First Nations community.

“Part of our reconciliation to this long-term dispute was to seek fair compensation. We trusted Canada’s judicial processes to achieve this, but we are extremely disappointed to hear this will be further prolonged,” Robert Dennis, chief councillor of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations told the Times Colonist.
