Canada, U.S. may not meet SLA deadline: minister

Sept. 15, 2016 - Canada’s International Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland says it may not be possible for Canadian and American officials to reach an agreement on managing softwood-lumber trade between the countries before the Oct. 12 deadline.

Freeland told media Wednesday that there is goodwill between the Trudeau and Obama administrations to resolve the trade dispute, but that protectionism in the U.S. is making an agreement difficult. 

U.S Trade Representative Michael Froman is expected to travel to Canada in early October.
