Canfor CEO: company remains committed to B.C.

Nov. 16, 2018 – After announcing it had acquired a 70 per cent stake in Sweden's largest privately owned sawmill company, VIDA Group, Canfor CEO, Don Kayne, said in a teleconference with media that the company remains committed to B.C.

According to the Prince George Citizen, Canfor will continue to be headquartered in Vancouver and the majority of its production will be in B.C.  

“We still believe long term, B.C. is well-positioned geographically to grow in the Asian markets for sure, let alone the U.S. market,” Kayne said in the teleconference. “However, with some of the AAC (annual allowable cut) reductions that you’re all familiar with due to the mountain pine beetle, and some of the recent forest fires that we’ve all had to deal with the last couple of years, the expansion opportunities are certainly limited in B.C.”

Kayne added that distributors such as Home Depot are looking for suppliers that will be around for the long term, and the company felt it needed to secure additional SPF for future growth.
