Forest fire burning near Fort McMurray

May 2, 2016 – A fire burning in a ravine on the outskirts of Fort McMurray has prompted the area to raise its forest fire risk level to very high.

May 2, 2016  By  Andrew Macklin

According to an article from the CBC, the fire started in a ravine near Abasand on Saturday afternoon. The fire was under control later in the day.

Local officials raised the forest fire risk level based on the proximity of the fire to Fort McMurray, with the fire burning just a few hundred metres from the edge of town.

Parts of northern B.C. and northern Alberta have been under observation for the past few months as a warm winter and dry spring have already caused several fires to breakout.
