No plans yet for former WFP site

Jan. 15, 2014 – Officials in Nanaimo are working to figure out the fate of the site of a former Western Forest Products (WFP) sawmill.

According to the Nanaimo Daily News, the Nanaimo Port Authority hopes to engage WFP in discussions on the future of the site, which housed the mill since the 1970s.

A spokesperson for WFP stated that the company is in the process of decommissioning and cleaning up the sawmill site, but the company has no future plans for the property.

The Nanaimo mill consolidation was to help increase production at the WFP Duke Point and Saltair mills.
