Ontario to introduce carbon pricing

Jan. 13, 2015 – The Ontario government plans to introduce carbon pricing for corporations and consumers by the end of the year, a policy that is seven years in the making.

According to an article from The Globe and Mail, the commitment was made when Ontario signed the Western Climate Initative (WCI) in the summer of 2008 alongside Quebec, British Columbia and California. All three have introduced some type of carbon payment system already, with B.C. implementing a carbon tax and Quebec and California employing a cap-and-trade system.

According to Glen Murray, Ontario’s Environment Minister, a comprehensive plan isin development that will slash greenhouse gas emissions, as well as introduce cleaner fuel standards and energy conservation measures.
