There are lots out there to choose from in all sizes and price ranges. Read on for some highlights as supplied by a number of equipment manufacturers. If you want more information

The Cat 559 B-Series trailer-mount knuckleboom log loader features an enhanced engine and hydraulic power system that saves fuel while maintaining performance. Refinements to the hydraulic system deliver faster boom speed, quicker grapple action and a 15% increase in swing torque to reduce cycle times and improve production. Activated by a flip of the switch, three operating modes give operators the flexibility to match engine speed and pump flow to the application.

John Deere
John Deere recently introduced its next generation of log loaders: the D-Series, featuring one new model, the 2454D and three updated models, the 2154D, 2954D and 3754D.

The upgraded D-Series boasts many updated features and benefits, including Tier 3 compliant engines with improved horsepower, new hydraulic systems with better flow and stronger, more robust structures to take on the toughest jobs. These machines also have new boom designs, next-size-up swing systems and undercarriage components, improved guarding systems, the Smart cooling system with external debris protection, an on-demand hydraulically driven cooling fan with reversing option, remote filters, and test ports, all of which help ensure improved uptime, productivity and low maintenance costs.

Each of these models is available with several options for logging fronts and cab arrangements, making it possible to configure a machine that meets all of your log-loading needs.

Komatsu offers three Tier 3 purpose-built log loaders with high/wide undercarriages. Each model uses swing system, upper frame and undercarriage components from the next larger Komatsu excavator model. A full range of guarded excavator and OPS compliant forestry cabs with fixed or tilting risers provide protection and low cab sound levels. Each log loader model can be customized with a variety of track shoe and front end attachment options from the factory. KOMTRAX vehicle monitoring is standard.

  • PC200LL-8: 143 hp, 36-ft reach; operating weight to 65,000 lbs; 55,607 ft- lb swing torque.
  • PC220LL-8: 168 hp, 38-ft reach; operating weight to 80,000 lbs; 75,903 ft-lb swing torque.
  • PC300LL-7E0: 246 hp, 43 ft reach; operating weight to 100,000 lbs; 97,024 ft-lb swing torque.

The Liebherr A-924C rubber tire loader has proven its agility and quality in the woods with an operating weight of around 28,000 kg and a travel speed of up to 20km/hr. It will move from one part of the job to another in a flash on top of a very low maintenance cost undercarriage. The long reach of its 40 ft. boom and stick allows the operator to work from the road and on narrow roads it can reach over the tractor to the trailer. The spacious hydraulic cab allows the operator to lift up to 17-ft. 3-in. (eye sight). The ergonomic air suspension seat, lower back and bottom cushion heated seat makes it easy on operators over long shifts. The Liebherr tier 3-4 cylinders engine is environmentally friendly with its low fuel consumption and very low noise emission. The configuration of the engine and hydraulic pumps makes it for easy access for maintenance.

With an increase of 30 hp and a 10% jump in hydraulic pump flow, the new Link-Belt 290 X2 Series Forestry machine can easily handle both log loading and harvester processing applications with a combination heel-rack and processing head as shown in the photo. The X2 Series is newly designed for U.S. and Canadian markets with an option for High-Wide or High-Narrow undercarriages to meet transport requirements.

Four additional new models ranging from 210 to 370-class will be introduced. The X2 Series can be equipped with Live-Heel or Butt-N-Top attachments for log-loading applications and a Road Builder attachment is available with optional auxiliary hydraulics for thumb and rotate/tilt. Other features include: remote fob-activated HID lighting, air-suspension seat, satellite-ready stereo, heavy-duty guarding, welded catwalks, adjustable heavy-duty service doors, full-length track guards, reinforced idler mounts, heavy-duty belly pans, and factory-installed auxiliary hydraulics plumbed to the boom foot.

Transporting and handling timber has become much easier with Sennebogen’s new 830 M-T trailer puller material handling machine. The newest member of the company’s D Series line, the 830 M-T has excellent pulling capacity, high lifting capacities, smooth acceleration and easy access to and from the cab.

The 830 M-T is equipped with a powerful six-cylinder, inline, Cummins Tier 3 engine rated at 206 hp. A machine specially designed for extreme working conditions, the 830 M-T features a very strong boom system with a working radius of up to 45-ft.

The Sennebogen 830 M-T D Series features the hydraulic elevating maXCab that can be raised up to 20-ft., allowing the operator an unobstructed bird’s eye view. This standard feature on the 830 M-T gives the operator the advantage of seeing past wood piles to get more load with each grab.

The Tanguay WL350 log loader is designed and built in North America. This 75,000 lb loader is equipped with a proven 225 hp Cummins QSB engine featuring a Funk transmission and 100,000 lbs towing capacity.

State of the art hydraulics provides smooth and fast boom movement and various boom configurations with reaches of up to 54-ft. Thanks to the large and robust carrier base with stabilizers, the full lift capacity is possible over 360 degrees.

The Tanguay WL350 also features an electro-proportional controlled hydraulic cab riser, a safe rear entrance ergonomic cab, and exceptional visibility with the operator’s eyes at 18.5 feet.
Tanguay also offers a custom and electrical power pedestal and rail mount loaders to suit site requirements.

Tigercat has been testing a new machine for material handling – the LS855C shovel logger, in steep slope applications in South America and Tasmania. This highly refined machine uses the durable C-series upper assembly and has the same FH400 undercarriage and super duty leveling system as the L870C feller buncher. The purpose-built ER shovel logger boom with live heel provides a maximum reach of 10.9 m.

The LS855C uses Tigercat’s new twin swing drive system, providing powerful swing torque while minimizing pinion loads for extended swing system life. A closed loop swing circuit provides high swing performance as well as an energy recovery system. Every time the machine upper slows its rotation, energy is returned to the engine flywheel through the pump and motors. This energy is then available for other machine functions, increasing overall performance or decreasing fuel consumption.

With its heavy-duty forestry specific boom design, V-ACT engine and forestry-optimized hydraulics, the Volvo FC2924C offers capacity and reach. This purpose built, tracked forestry carrier delivers solutions for log loading, sorting, stacking or processing applications.
