Lumber prices steady amid balanced supply and demand: Madison’s

The double holiday period apparently downplayed demand levels, but players were adamant that firm prices and balanced supply indicated a simmering market ready to advance.

In the week ending May 24, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$384 mfbm. This is up $1 from the previous week when it was $383.

That week’s price is down $46, or 11 per cent, from one month ago when it was $430 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year when it was $350 mfbm, that week’s price is up $34, or 10 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $901, that week’s price is down by $517, or 57 per cent.

In the week ending May 24, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was $365 mfbm. This is up $10, or three per cent from the previous week when it was $355 mfbm.

That week’s price is up $8, or two per cent from one month ago when it was $358 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year when it was $470 mfbm, that week’s price is down $105, or 22 per cent. Compared to two years ago when it was $795, that week’s price is down by $430, or 54 per cent.
