Nearly 23,000 properties on evacuation alert in BC due to wildfires

The number of wildfire evacuation alerts in B.C. jumped overnight to 23,000 as of Aug. 17, as wildfires in the Interior of the province are fanned by hot and windy conditions.
The White Rock Lake Fire, in the Central Okanagan, is now 64,270 hectares and classified as out of control, CTV News reports.
Approximately 70 properties in the Ewings Landing and Killiney areas have been significantly damaged by the fire, along with at least a dozen properties on the Osoyoos Indian Band Land.
The Mount Law fire in West Kelowna, B.C., is about 800 hectares and burning within the city limits, leading to an additional 20 properties in the area being added to the evacuation alert.
