New Brunswick to fight budworm
Feb. 21, 2014 – The forest industry in New Brunswick will get $18 million in federal funding to develop and implement a program to tackle the spruce budworm outbreak. A spruce budworm outbreak is currently occurring in Quebec and will spread to New Brunswick imminently, according to experts.
Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency told the CBC that New Brunswick is one of the most forestry-dependent provinces in Canada, generating an estimated $2.5 billion in economic activity.
The Spruce Budworm Early Intervention was introduced in the 2014 federal budget and will allocate $18 million over the next four years to develop and implement the program.
