Ontario invests $1.9M in upgrades for White River sawmill
April 16, 2018 - The Ontario government is investing $1.9 million in upgrades to help modernize White River Forest Products sawmill outside of White River, Ont. The funds will allow the mill to increase production by 30 per cent and support new product development.

“We are pleased to see the government recognizing the value of supporting job creation in green industries like forestry,” Frank Dottori, president & CEO White River Forest Products, said in a news release.
White River Forest Products operates in partnership with Pic Mobert First Nation. About 25 per cent of the mill’s 161 employees are from the First Nation community. The upgrades will allow the mill to add 15 new employees.
“Our government understands how important a strong forestry sector is to Ontario’s economy and the key role it plays in many northern and rural communities,” Nathalie Des Rosiers, Ontario’s Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, said in the release. “The Forestry Growth Fund, under the Jobs and Prosperity Fund, is helping increase production capacity and competitiveness while continuing to ensure our forests are sustainably managed.”
The funding through Ontario’s Jobs and Prosperity Fund and will roll out over four years.
“Creating jobs and growing the local economy is the precise purpose of the Jobs and Prosperity Fund – I am happy to see the investment we are making in northwestern Ontario, and the support this will provide to families in Ontario,” Steven Del Duca, Minister of Economic Development and Growth, said in the release.
