Ontario wildfire prompts special air quality statements
Aug. 2, 2018 - Environment Canada issued special air quality statements on Thursday for northern Ontario residents.

Smoke from the expansive Parry Sound 33 wildfire is causing poor air quality and reducing visibility in surrounding areas.
The affected areas are Greater Sudbury and vicinity, Manitoulin – Blind River – Killarney, and North Bay – West Nipissing.
Environment Canada states that high levels of air pollution are possible over the next few days due to the forest fires in the province.
“Smoke plumes are over parts of the region from forest fires in the vicinity of Key River,” Environment Canada states on its website. “Air quality may deteriorate if the smoke descends to ground level.”
Environment Canada warns that individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. And that children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
The Parry Sound 33 wildfire, which started on July 18, is 11,000 hectares in size and currently not under control.
