Prepare for U.S. protectionism: former diplomat

Jan. 4, 2017 - A former Canadian diplomat is warning that president-elect Donald Trump's choices for the U.S. trade team could be bad news for softwood lumber and other industries.

Lawrence Herman, an international trade lawyer, told The Canadian Press that Trump’s pick for U.S. trade representative has a protectionist background. “They’re not going to likely interfere with the [softwood] trade dispute process so we’re in for a number of years of litigation,” Herman said.
