Resolute Forest Products Inc. temporarily lays off more than 1,000 workers due to COVID-19

Amidst woes the forest industry has seen both prior to COVID-19 and during, Resolute Forest Products Inc. has decided to temporarily lay off more than 1,000 workers, mostly from Quebec.

CEO Yves Laflamme says that the cuts will mainly affect wood products, newsprint and specialized pulp, along with head office employees in Montreal. Resolute has roughly 7,500 people employed in Canada and the United States, with the majority located in Quebec.

Some of these temporary layoffs may be extended pending economic troubles related to COVID-19, reports Global News.
