Harvesting
Russia out of wood?
Oct. 2, 2014 – The Russian logging industry will run out of timber to harvest in 10 to 20 years, environmental analysts say. According to an article in the Moscow Times, "To keep the logging industry on the rails, Russia needs to go from extensive to intensive forest management." But this process would require massive reform and investment that would take decades to recoup.
Russia does currently replant a lot of trees but the replanted forests get almost no maintenance so up to 60 per cent of the trees replanted wither and die.
