Sapawe sawmill construction on schedule

Dec. 31, 2014 – The new Resolute Forest Products sawmill in Sapawe, west of Thunder Bay near Atikokan, remains on schedule for a spring opening.

According to a report from the Atikokan Progress, the mill remains on schedule for a May 2015 opening.

The report states that the site has been completely re-developed, and that hiring of key positions is currently underway. At the time it opens, the mill is expected to employ around 100 people.

New equipment, including a pair of lumber drying kilns, are currently being built at the mill site. Approximately 80 people are involved with the construction of the mill.
