Automated tipping machinery for saw filers

The Sawmill Kahny is a fully automated round saw tipping machine that boasts extreme precision and speed. The machine is specifically formulated to meet the low-cost, high reward demands of saw filers and mill management. The first machines are fresh off the production line in Germany and are being shipped to North America in the coming months.

The smaller size of the machine and the newly designed single tip clamping jaws from the bowel to the saw is an amazing work of German engineering. In the past, the price of the Kahny was hard to justify at the mill level; however, the Sawmill Kahny is extremely affordable.”

Mike Weckel, VP at Cut Machinery, seconds Cloutier’s comments. “Never before have we seen a machine designed specifically for the sawmill. The machine is easy to use and quickly changes over from carbide trim saws to v-tip trims to conventional 40 toothed gang saws. Further, it re-tips at an impressive rate of 10 saws per hour, and is priced right for the market.” The Sawmill Kahny has added features of double fluxing for first time tipping and an alternate top program (tipping left and right tips in one set up). Further the machine allows for up to a 35-degree hook on gang saws and up to negative 5 degrees on trim saws.

Cut Tech conducted extensive industry research and found that filers wanted an affordable machine that can tip or re-tip all saws used at the mill without a substantial capital investment. The Sawmill Kahny fulfills these requirements. The new machine allows for tip reduction and less grinding due to precise squaring and centering, tips need to be only 0.005 over final kerf. It is not uncommon to have the sawmill drop ten thousand kerf on an installation of a new Kahny tipper.
